Saranac Lake, N.Y., is a small bustling village in the scenic Tri-Lakes region of the northern Adirondack Mountains. When the first known settlements were established around Saranac Lake in 1819, the earliest inhabitants were primarily loggers, hunters and fishermen. Shortly after the arrival of Dr. Edward Trudeau, an outdoorsman whose health was restored by the wilderness environment, Saranac Lake soon established itself as a sort of "health resort" sought out by many renowned Americans.
